It’s easy to take shops for granted; we expect them to be open and have what we’re looking for everytime we go shopping.
But, of course, shops alter and disappear, and new ones emerge. Shopping habits change.
Here is a selection of images from the Evening News archives that depict some of the shops in Edinburgh approximately 50 years ago.
The images capture the mood of the Capital in the 1970s, and they are not just views of everyday shops; there is one selling bowling balls, as well as the legendary Madame Doubtfire’s trash shop.
