Football Insider reports that Oxford City’s young attacker Jayden Carbon is expected to join Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough has experienced one of the quietest transfer windows among EFL clubs, with no players purchased and only one sold thus far.

Rob Edwards, the new manager, is mostly using the team he took over from former boss Michael Carrick earlier this summer because Josh Coburn has permanently joined Championship rivals Millwall.

In the upcoming weeks, there is a desire to change this, and it looks like a transfer breakthrough is imminent.

Football Insider predicts that Middlesbrough will acquire Oxford City’s 19-year-old sensation, Jayden Carbon. He is expected to complete his transfer to the Championship team on Wednesday, according to reports.

In early July, the same publication stated that Wrexham and Leicester City were interested in Carbon. Unfortunately, when he moves up the league ladder significantly, it looks like he’s moving from Oxfordshire to Teesside.

It’s unclear if the teenager will join Edwards’ senior squad right away or if he will wait to join the team until he has gained experience in the academy.

Current alternatives for Middlesbrough strikers

Prior to the 2024–25 National League North season, Carbon had made six senior appearances; nevertheless, he solidified his place in the Oxford City squad during the previous campaign.
Carbon scored five goals and dished out one assist in 39 league appearances while playing a range of attacking positions, most often as a striker or winger.

Carbon might be the newest player to follow in the footsteps of Teesside’s first-team heroes, which would be helpful for Middlesbrough as they strive to nurture the next generation.

Striker statistics for Middlesbrough as of right now (2024/25)

Player Games Goals Assists
Tommy Conway 37 13 1
Marcus Forss 25 1 0
Delano Burgzorg 44 6 2
Sonny Finch 1 0 0

Tommy Conway and Marcus Forss are Edwards’ only seasoned strikers going into the season. Younger players like Sonny Finch are the next best option after Delano Burgzorg, who can play at the top.

One for the future opens Boro’s transfer window.

Although Edwards will be keen to bolster his team with established Championship players, it looks like the Boro transfer window is beginning with a long-term prospect.
Instead of signing as someone who will have an instant impact, Carbon is expected to grow into an asset, even if he is given an early role in the Middlesbrough squad.

Just over two weeks remain until the season begins, so Edwards will be hoping for a big spike in transfer activity.
