How much Jesse Lingard earned in South Korea as Coventry City backed to strike PL deal.
Although clubs in the Championship recently closed their winter transfer window on February 2nd, transfer speculation in the second tier continues.
With the free agent market open throughout the season, the 24 second-tier clubs can sign unattached players as part of their 25-man roster at any time.
With just under a third of the season remaining, the competition for a spot in next season’s Premier League is heating up, whether by automatic promotion or the play-offs.
Despite a minor setback at the turn of the year, Coventry City are back in first place in the Championship, having recorded three statement victories in a row, first against nearest challengers Middlesbrough, followed by away victories at West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United.
As a result, the Sky Blues are set to play in the Premier League for the first time in 25 years, after being relegated on the final day of the 2000/01 season, ending 34 consecutive seasons in the division.
Frank Lampard’s side has demonstrated on several occasions why that appears to be the case, thanks to their defensive strength and attacking flair, which means that many players already in his ranks will be hoping to make the step up to the Premier League if the final weeks of the current season go as planned.
However, extra quality and experience would be appreciated, and Jesse Lingard is one man who can supply both.
The former Manchester United academy product and 32-time England international has been a free agent since leaving South Korean club FC Seoul in December.
It has now been reported that Coventry, Middlesbrough, and Ipswich Town were among seven clubs that rejected his free transfer offer, while he has also been linked with a move to Brazilian club Remo.
However, Football League World’s Sky Blues fan pundit, Chris Deez, says City should consider a bid for the 33-year-old under one condition.
With that in mind, FLW investigated how much Lingard was purportedly earning in the South Korean capital.
How much money Jesse Lingard received in salaries at FC Seoul as Coventry City pushed to make transfer advances on one condition?
Speaking to FLW, Deez feels City might pursue a deal for the playmaker if they get promoted to the Premier League, owing to the increased financial opportunities.
“The issue about Jesse Lingard is that he gets a lot of derision because he’s evolved into a TikTok dancer rather than a decent footballer over the years.”He was good for United in big spells,” he remarked.
“But then (he was) very good for West Ham, so we know there is still a great player in there.
When he is bothered, can apply himself, and does not have a bad attitude. That would probably be my main concern in the Championship if he came to Coventry.
“However, first and foremost, we would be unable to afford his wages. Doug King will not settle for a weekly salary of £25,000 or £30,000, according to Deez.
This is why they did not sign Frank Onyeka and instead opted for a loan. Hopefully, if we get promoted, we will have a larger pay budget and wage ceiling, allowing us to offer these players the money they want to come to us.”
