Jamie McDonnell, a former Colchester United player, joins Mansfield

Earlier Colchester United loanee Jamie McDonnell has joined League One’s Mansfield Town.

For the duration of the season, the 21-year-old midfielder is on loan from Nottingham Forest to the Stags.

On the Mansfield Town website, McDonnell stated, “I’m really looking forward to the season ahead and I’m so happy to sign on loan for Mansfield.”

“The players and staff have a strong bond, and it feels like a real family environment here, where I’ve been training this morning. I feel like I can really develop and contribute in this club.

“I spoke with Kyle (McAdam) and Joe (Gardner) earlier, and they had nothing but positive things to say about the club.”

After coming to Colchester on a season-long loan from Premier League team Nottingham Forest, McDonnell was a revelation for the team in the 2024–2025 season.

Danny Cowley claims that Ronnie Harvey is one of U’s top trainers “every day.”

For Danny Cowley’s team, he participated in 37 league and cup matches. He provided Colchester a late equalizer in their 1-1 draw with Bradford City in November of last year, marking his first goal as a professional.

McDonnell received Colchester’s Young Player of the Season award and was included in the Sky Bet League Two Team of the Season.

He has also represented Northern Ireland at every age. He most recently made five appearances for his nation during the qualification campaign for the UEFA European under-21 Championship.
