Jenson Metcalfe in action during the Premier League 2 match between Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers at Finch Farm on March 15, 2024
Jenson Metcalfe, an Everton midfielder, has joined Bradford City for an unknown amount.
The 20-year-old joins the League One club after spending the previous season on loan at League Two Chesterfield, where he scored once in 28 games.
Metcalfe, who was born in Wigan, joined Everton’s academy at the age of five and earned his first professional contract when he turned 17. Despite sustaining a cruciate ligament injury early in 2022, he signed a four-year contract with the Blues later that year.
Metcalfe was a regular for Everton’s Under-21 team during the 2023/24 season, but he never made a senior first-team appearance for the club, being named as a substitute for the 3-0 home defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion on August 17, last year, the first fixture of the club’s final season at Goodison Park.
Metcalfe finished with an 11-minute cameo off the bench for David Moyes’ Blues in last Saturday’s 1-0 loss to Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
The 20-year-old will now look to kickstart his career over the Pennines under Graham Alexander, who guided the West Yorkshire club to third place in League Two last season and automatic promotion.
