Man branded ‘danger to public’ after life-endangering assault with BMW in Dundee.

Deklin Thom faces an extended sentence after being remanded for the attack. Two women were nearly crushed between cars when a BMW reversed at high speed and sped away down a busy Dundee road.
Deklin Thom, a banned driver, threatened to “ram” one of the women’s cars before carrying out his threat outside Bayne’s on Ballindean Road.
When he was released from custody in February, he was initially charged with attempted murder.
The 21-year-old is now facing the possibility of a lengthy sentence after a sheriff deemed him a potential threat to the public.
After Thom pleaded guilty to assaulting the women and endangering their lives, a video of the chaotic incident was widely shared on social media and shown in Dundee Sheriff Court. The incident occurred months after Thom was narrowly spared custody in the same court for a crazed attack during breakfast service at a Brechin hotel.
Sheriff Tim Piven-Smith stated, “This appears to be the second time I have had to watch you act in a dangerous manner on CCTV within this court.” “It’s clear to me that custody is inevitable, irrespective of your age, but standing in the pattern of offending.”
Thom was said to be in a “tumultuous” relationship at the time and had left his BMW unlocked on Longtown Road so his partner could collect property.
Thom informed the woman and her two female friends that he intended to ram her black Audi A1.
According to fiscal depute Duncan MacKenzie, the Audi was parked nose-to-nose with a woman’s Land Rover when Thom appeared and reversed, forcing one of the women to jump out of the way. “Mr Thom then left Ballindean Road in his car,” Mr MacKenzie said.
“Just out of shot in the video, when turning out of the junction, he drove in the opposite direction and passed a light grey Ford Fiesta.
“It was in motion and a collision was narrowly avoided.” Thom was lost from sight on Balunie Avenue, and the other cars suffered only minor damage.
More than a fortnight later, he was arrested at Perth’s Broxden Travelodge.
Thom, a prisoner at HMYOI Polmont, admitted to driving dangerously and assaulting two women on February 12, endangering their lives.
He also drove while disqualified, having been banned for 12 months in October 2024 for exceeding three times the drink-drive limit following the Brechin incident.
Thom and his friend Paul Fraser both received community payback orders for causing havoc at the Northern Hotel on Clerk Street while looking for a man Thom suspected of having an affair with his girlfriend.
“The court believes you may be a danger to the public,” Sheriff Niven-Smith informed Thom. “That’s the perspective I had when I was told about your attendance at the hotel in Brechin.
“You were given the opportunity to be rehabilitated within the community. “That was clearly unsuccessful. “You clearly have unresolved issues that shows you have a propensity for violence.”
The sentence was postponed until September to allow for the preparation of a social work report, which will look into the possibility of imposing an extended sentence on Thom.
