Matt Maher: Charlton draw was too little, too late for Eric Ramsay at West Brom – and he knew it.
No one summed up Eric Ramsay’s final match in charge of Albion, or his entire 44-day reign, better than the man himself.
“Not good enough,” he said during a final press conference that was both honest and, in his opinion, a little too accurate.
Tuesday’s performance against Charlton was certainly the best of the nine matches of which the 34-year-old took command.
The problem was that it only resulted in a 1-1 draw, which, when combined with the previous eight winless games, was never going to be enough. Ramsay seemed to be aware of this.
“This performance isn’t a problem,” he told reporters. “In isolation, it is a standout performance at home.
“However, this performance is not isolated. We’re adding it to many draws, but we’re not winning enough to cross the finish line.
“It feels like a step backwards. “I understand what the circumstance requires at the moment.
It need wins. It does not require draws. “We’ve clearly had too many of those.”
