New Portsmouth hero’s attacking warning for Championship defences with Norwich City and West Brom on horizon
New Portsmouth hero’s attacking warning for Championship defences with Norwich City and West Brom on horizon.
Adrian Segecic believes his partnership with Colby Bishop, Callum Lang, and Josh Murphy will have Championship defences scrambling for cover.
Adrian Segecic believes Pompey’s attacking prowess will pose a significant threat to Championship defences.
After a match-winning debut against Oxford United, the new Blues hero has warned that there is still a lot of room for improvement in his game.
Segecic: ‘I think we can be a dangerous attack’
Segecic delivered a promising performance, scoring in the first half and causing problems for the home team with his direct running and energy.
The 21-year-old summer signing worked well with the excellent Callum Lang behind the fit-again Colby Bishop in the 10 position, while Florian Bianchini operated down the left flank.
It was a tantalising glimpse of what to expect from Segecic and Pompey’s attacks in the future, with the Sydney FC signing sending a warning to the division.
‘What I’m about is receiving the ball, driving at players, getting shots off, and having that energy in the press and work ethic off the ball.
“Maybe people don’t expect that work-rate from an attacker, but that is part of my personality and what I enjoy doing.” I believe I did well in terms of physicality; all I need to do now is be smart enough to get away from defenders and take advantage of my stature.
‘I’m getting pretty good at it, and I’m working on it so I can keep improving. “Playing together with Langy, Bish, and Murphs could pose a threat.” The more we play, the closer we become.
If we can stay fit going forward, I believe we can be a dangerous attack. Pompey’s early-season confidence has been boosted by their first league win, which contrasted with last season.
The way Pompey fight for each is ‘unbelievable’
Last season, the team went 10 games without a win in any competition, with only three wins on the road throughout the season.
Oxford pushed for a leveller in the eight minutes of stoppage time, but the Blues flew into tackles and put their bodies on the line to maintain their lead in impressive style.
Segecic stated, “Now that we have our first win, I believe both myself and the boys can move forward.” After a challenging start last year, this positive outcome can boost confidence.
“We dug in and the lads who came in did the same for us, flying into tackles. The way we fight for each other is unbelievable and can definitely take us a long way.”
