QPR sent clear message on Ronnie Edwards, Southampton transfer – “He has to leave in January”

“He has to leave in January” is the obvious message QPR delivered regarding Ronnie Edwards’ deal to Southampton.

Despite spending a significant portion of this season on the bench and playing just four minutes in the Saints’ previous four games, the 22-year-old has made eight Championship starts. It comes after Edwards had a successful loan stint with Queens Park Rangers near the conclusion of the previous campaign, and it seemed like he was ready to take off, especially with Southampton back in the Championship. We asked Louis Moir, our QPR fan analyst, if he thought his team should pursue the young defender once more. “I think that you could argue that we may potentially need another center-half,” Louissa stated in an interview with Football League World.

You can’t trust [Jean] Clarke-Salter, even though it’s clear that he’s getting back to full fitness. Liam Morrison, who has a history of injury issues and has had a couple shaky outings. Steve Cook is not getting any younger. Jimmy Dunne just returned to center-half, followed by [Amadou Salif] Mbengue and young players. Therefore, I believe that Ronnie Edwards is not playing for Southampton at all, even if we are in the market for one. “We just need to be the team that signs him before he departs in January. We must capture him.

“We need to retrieve him, and it appears that this could have been done later in the summer. Since Southampton didn’t seem to be budging in the summer, they might be happy to sell him in January and simply offload him now for some cash. “And they’ve improved, given their circumstances, a new management, and how they’re getting better. “They might be content with what they have, or they might need to raise money in order to recruit players in January as well. “Look, I sincerely hope we can work out an arrangement with them for Edwards. If we don’t go back in for him, I’ll be surprised.

However, it would be fantastic if we were able to acquire him permanently as well. Ronnie Edwards must return to QPR, regardless of whether it is a loan or permanent position. “It’s truly amazing for this level if everyone remained healthy and you had a centre half duo of Ronnie Edwards and Clarke-Salter. “And then, of course, you have Dunne and Mbengue as well; it would be fantastic, and he would just elevate us like he did last season, and I’m hoping it happens.”

Four natural centre backs plus cover from players like Dunne seem to be about the ideal number of players for a four-at-the-back formation. Despite being a crucial component of that formula, Clarke-Salter can’t be relied upon for a whole season because he has only made over 30 appearances in a Championship season once in the previous seven campaigns. The foundations seem shakier when you consider that Cook is nearing the end of his career and Dunne is needed at right-back.

Of the 21 Rangers matchday squads Edwards was a part of at the end of the previous season, he started 20 of them, with Mbengue being the only new inclusion. Therefore, if he were to return to Loftus Road, it appears very possible that he would find enough playing time. The hierarchy has reportedly attempted to sign the defender on deadline day. In any event, he will undoubtedly have a simpler path to regular playing time there than with Southampton, who have Nathan Wood, Joshua Quarshie, club captain Jack Stephens, and England international Taylor Harwood-Bellis.

Edwards needs to play regular football at the age of 22 after demonstrating that he is capable of playing in the second division. With QPR, where he already has a solid reputation, this appears to be much more feasible. It might be time to consider a permanent transfer away; at Loftus Road, he would undoubtedly be welcomed with open arms. A loan would work, but the Saints are full of youthful defensive talent, and there is no indication that the scenario on the south coast is poised to change very soon. From a financial perspective, this is a deal that could benefit Edwards, QPR, and Southampton in every way.
