STB Pizza in St Leonards receives one-star hygiene rating.
A pizza restaurant has received a one-star food hygiene rating.
STB Pizza, based at 30 Fernside Avenue in St Leonards, was examined by food safety authorities on October 23.
The inspectors gave the eatery a one-star rating, the second-lowest possible score. A hygiene rating of one places STB Pizza in the bottom 1.4 per cent of all the 834 establishments operating within the Hastings area.
More than 91% of the restaurants assessed by Hastings Borough Council (761 out of 834) presently receive a food hygiene rating of five, the highest possible.
A rating of one means that “major improvement” is required.

Food safety personnel evaluate three main categories.
STB Pizza achieved a ‘good’ rating for hygienic food handling, which includes food preparation, cooking, reheating, cooling, and storing.
However, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities, as well as the restaurant structure, were deemed to be deficient, with the result of’major improvement necessary.’
This includes the layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities, and pest control techniques, all of which are deemed critical for maintaining proper food hygiene.
The management of food safety was also considered to need significant improvement.
This category is based on the processes in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to consume, proof of staff understanding about food safety, and the food safety officer’s confidence in the future maintenance of standards.

STB Pizza presently has a 2.7 out of 5 rating on Google Reviews, with 181 reviews. The most common rating among these is one out of five.
Timothy Watkins said in his review, “The pizza box is more tasty than the pizza!” Despite this, several customers have posted enthusiastic five-star Google reviews in recent months.
Henry Brookshaw called the restaurant “absolutely amazing,” and Tim Sherwood added, “Great place – the staff are friendly and the food is excellent.”
