Wetherspoons: Pubs giant confirms when it hopes to open major new venue on Sheffield leisure complex.

Wetherspoons has revealed when it plans to open its new pub-restaurant at a major Sheffield leisure complex.

The Star reported this week that planning permission has been obtained to open a new facility at the Valley Centertainment complex near Sheffield Arena.

The company has since acknowledged that it is currently in legal negotiations with the landlord and that, subject to getting a premise licence and successfully completing negotiations with the landlord, the venue will open ‘towards the end of this year.’ The firm intends to invest more than £1 million on the initiative.

The company told The Star that the landlord applied for ‘Change of Use’ planning on our behalf for the former Chiquito’s at Valley Centertainment, which was successful.

“Wetherspoon now needs to have a premise licence. “If successful the company will invest approx. £1.25m on the site and will create approx. 50/60 new full and part time jobs.”

A document accompanying the planning application from town planning consultants.Carney Sweeney states:

“The apartment was formerly used as a restaurant and is now unoccupied, providing an opportunity to reactivate the space in a way that benefits the local economy and boosts the area’s vitality.

“The goal of this idea is to create a flexible food and beverage offering that accommodates both dining and social drinking.

This dual usage is intended to meet changing consumer preferences while also promoting the long-term reuse of an existing commercial facility.

Valley Centertainment, which completed in 1998, is an important recreational area in Sheffield near Broughton Lane. It has a tram station on the same route that serves Meadowhall.

Its attractions include a cinema, a bowling alley, and a soft play facility, as well as several restaurants and plenty of parking.
