Why the move to the Baggies appealed to the new West Brom signing

BirminghamLive’s most recent West Bromwich Albion news, including Dan Mason’s addition to the squad.

George Campbell, a defender from the USA, is West Brom’s second summer addition.

The 24-year-old joins on a four-year contract from Major League Soccer team CF Montreal for an undisclosed sum, pending international clearance.

Earlier in the transfer window, Nat Phillips was acquired by the Baggies from Liverpool.

Campbell can play center back or right back, making him a versatile defender. He received his first USMNT cap in January and has made 16 appearances in the current MLS season.

“I’m thrilled to be here,” he stated. I genuinely can’t wait to start training and putting on the boots.

“I wanted to take advantage of the signing opportunity and play football in Europe as soon as it presented itself. I’m prepared to go.

“For me, the most important thing is to keep focused on the task at hand, which is to help the

team triumphs. I’ll be ready for any obstacles that may come up along the route.

“We are thrilled to welcome George to the club,” said Andrew Nestor, sporting director for Albion. Despite his youth, George provides a plenty of first-team experience.

His physicality, positional variety, and progressive play strengthen our defensive unit and increase our options.

“He can now join our pre-season at a crucial moment as we build to our home opener, having been in season since February.”
