Man jailed for causing fatal crash in friend’s car

Man jailed for causing fatal crash in friend’s car.

A man has been imprisoned for two years after losing control of his friend’s car and causing a fatal accident.

Danyaal Zubair, 28, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving and driving while uninsured after crashing a black BMW into two other vehicles.

David Pollard, 78, the driver of one of the cars hit by Zubair, died of complications from his injuries sustained in the crash on February 9, 2023, on Ifield Road in Crawley.

Zubair, of Lucas Close, Maidenbower, was also sentenced to 12 weeks in prison on April 23, 2025, for driving while disqualified and uninsured the day before, less than a month after pleading guilty and being provisionally suspended.

Zubair lost control of the car while speeding westbound towards the Ifield roundabout, colliding with Mr Pollard’s car on the other side of the road, according to a hearing at Hove Crown Court on Friday, August 8. Mr.

Pollard died four days after the crash. A third car crashed into Zubair after failing to stop in time, with the driver suffering minor injuries.

Zubair pleaded not guilty twice before changing his plea on March 25, 2025, when he was issued an interim six-month driving ban.

In addition to his prison sentence, Zubair was banned from driving for three years and will have to take an extended retest.

Det Cons Sean Stapley of Sussex Police stated, “I am pleased to see that the courts have recognised that Zubair’s actions were responsible for David Pollard’s death.

“These incidents can have devastating consequences for everyone involved, including their loved ones.

“Our thoughts remain with David’s family, and while we recognise that nothing will make up for the tragic loss of life, the sentencing today may bring some peace that the offender was brought to justice.”
