Jimmy Thelin condemns Aberdeen Scottish Cup glory to the history books as Swede lays down the gauntlet

Jimmy Thelin condemns Aberdeen Scottish Cup glory to the history books as Swede lays down the gauntlet.

The Swede understands that last season’s victory at Hampden is now history.

Jimmy Thelin believes Aberdeen’s Scottish Cup victory should be relegated to history. The Swede lifted the trophy for the Dons for the first time in 35 years, 11 years after their previous cup victory.

Thelin has basked in the glory of success, even witnessing fans in tears after the penalty shootout victory over Celtic at Hampden.

The manager understands that they can now look back with pride on what they have accomplished, but their focus must now shift to achieving even more, beginning with this weekend’s Premier Sports Cup visit to Morton.

“I met a lot of people,” Thelin acknowledged. “Immediately following the final course, people were crying and discussing their memories and emotions all over the city, including at the airport.

“Now, when we return after a few weeks away, it’s still bubbling and we talk about it. Now that a new season has begun, we must move on.

“Everyone else does it too. That’s a nice thing in history, but now we have to look ahead again.” Thelin has already revamped his squad this summer and is working to finalise deals for AC Milan striker Marko Lazetic and Varnamo’s Kenan Bilalovic.

Both are unlikely to be completed before the Europa League play-off deadline at the end of the week, but they may still be eligible as wildcards.

Thelin is in the second year of a three-year plan that is entirely focused on moving Aberdeen forward and making them the best they can be.

He explained: “I believe, once again, that each club has its own vision and strategy for how it wants to do things.

“We focus on our way, try to do our way, and use our resources to do the best we can and what we believe will be best in the future.

“I think it’s good to keep everyone sharp. You have to perform and be good. Competition is always beneficial. All this recruitment, and how they expand the clubs. “Nobody can live in the past.

Because competition is so fierce, everyone must constantly strive to improve. “I believe it benefits everyone.” The positive aspect for Thelin is that he has lifted a trophy and achieved for Aberdeen.

He understands the importance of instilling hope in others and demonstrating a clear end goal. He stated, “Before I was at Jönköpings, we won the league for the first time in 47 years, which was a fantastic experience in my hometown.”

“Then, at Elfsborg, we were one goal short of winning the championship. So it was wonderful to receive this trophy for the first time in 35 years with this incredible city and people whose passion is something special.

“You can see something unique on the streets. Everything came out in the end, but I felt it throughout the year.

I am from another country, but I could feel the passion and love for the club, as well as everyone’s pride in it. “And then to win something with them creates incredible emotions.

It is extremely difficult to win trophies. There aren’t many people who can deliver that over their careers.
