Aberdeen Europa League playoff squad confirmed as Jimmy Thelin banks on wildcard option while defensive duo miss out

Aberdeen Europa League playoff squad confirmed as Jimmy Thelin banks on wildcard option while defensive duo miss out.

Injured pair Emmanuel Gyamfi and Kristers Tobers were expected to miss the league phase, but they will return.

Jimmy Thelin has named Aberdeen’s squad for the Europa League playoff against FCSB. The Swede, as expected, has left out injured pair Emmanuel Gyamfi and Kristers Tobers.

The defensive pair are expected to return to the Dons squad for the group stages of the Europa League or Conference League. Thelin has yet to receive clearance for his new signings, Marko Lazetic and Kenan Bilalovic.

If he receives it before Wednesday, he could include them as wildcard signings, but he would have to leave two of his named squad members out. Aberdeen can name two wildcards by Wednesday.

Another omission is defender Slobodan Rubezic, who is about to sign with Polish club Korona Kielce. Aberdeen hosts the Romanians on Thursday before travelling to Bucharest the following week.
