Ruben Amorim receives timely Kobbie Mainoo message after making Man United star promise

Rio Ferdinand, a supporter of Manchester United transfer targets Adam Wharton and Carlos Belaba, believes Ruben Amorim should have more faith in Kobbie Mainoo.

Rio Ferdinand, who has praised Adam Wharton, has pushed Ruben Amorim to believe in Kobbie Mainoo.

Before the transfer deadline, Manchester United could strengthen their midfield and have been connected to Carlos Belaba of Brighton and Wharton of Crystal Palace. Wharton is thought to cost at least £60 million, but Brighton is asking more than £100 million for Belaba.

However, Ferdinand claims that Mainoo, who was not used as a substitute in Sunday’s home loss to Arsenal, is another player who can help United. Despite being a major fan of Wharton, the former United defender thinks the team can save money by getting the most out of Mainoo, who played a variety of roles the previous season.

“He [Wharton] would have been one of the midfielders on my hitlist,” Ferdinand stated on his YouTube channel. Indeed, Belaba has been the talk of the town for the past month or so.

Adam Wharton was one of the guys before that. He’s the closest thing to a Michael Carrick type, you know. From that deeper line position, he plays forward as a controller.

“I saw him play against some of the more established teams, like Man City and Liverpool, and he was unaffected. He thrives under pressure and is prepared for a significant event. I think he’s an amazing football player, and I adore him.

However, Kobbie Mainoo is here. He is capable of playing deep and controlling a game. If given the chance, Kobbie Mainoo can play as one of the two central midfielders. You may open up the game and get out of tight circumstances by playing through someone like him.

For the team to figure things out and the manager to trust him to go play, he might simply need to be a patient young man right now. Kobbie Mainoo would be one of my two midfield players if I were playing two. He is a tremendous talent, in my opinion, and can control the ball better than any player at Manchester United right now. I would assign that duty to him.

Mainoo had an injury-plagued season after a historic 2023–24 campaign in which he was a star for both United and England. Amorim stated earlier this year that he would try to secure Mainoo a regular role.

“With his quality, we are really happy to have more options and an option like Kobbie Mainoo. He has played as a 6, an 8, and a 10; however, we have to be careful, we need Kobbie Mainoo fit and fresh,” the United manager stated.

In England, they occasionally use three defenders, who play essentially the same role. We must assist him in playing and help him discover someone who is something like Casemiro, who is playing better since we have a better understanding of Casemiro’s style.

And because Kobbie has so many positive traits, I believe we can accomplish that with him. In addition to being close to the opponent’s box, he is incredibly skilled with the ball. We’ll make an effort to control everything and locate the ideal spot for a player like Kobbie.
