Edinburgh locals on ‘terrible’ tragedy as man plunges to his death outside homes.
Edinburgh New Town residents have expressed their grief after a man tragically fell to his death from scaffolding.
On Tuesday afternoon, a large emergency service presence was seen on the city’s Dublin Street following reports of a man falling, with the road closed and a police tent erected.
Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, and police remained in the area until Wednesday morning to investigate.
Following the tragedy, residents on the street expressed their sadness as they emerged from their homes after seeing police and medics swarm the area. One resident stated, “I haven’t slept a wink; it’s terrible.
Tragic. It’s quite a shock, and I’m still processing it. Another heartbroken local commented: “I did notice on the right hand side, a bit is missing by the window. “He was lying to the right of the scaffolding.”
“I saw the undertaker arrive. I walked out the front door not long after it happened. There was a queue across the street, and I looked up to see someone on the pavement. “I immediately knew it didn’t look good. It was terrible.
Ian Brown, a third local, added: “We just came out yesterday morning, and everything was cordoned off.
It’s appalling; he appeared to have fallen from the very top.” Police confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and the Health and Safety Executive has been notified.
A Police Scotland spokesperson stated: “Around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19, we received a report that a man had fallen on Dublin Street in Edinburgh. Emergency personnel responded, and a man was pronounced dead on the scene.
“There are no suspicious circumstances.” The Health and Safety Executive has been notified, and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
