The 3 Coventry City players set to leave the CBS Arena in 2026.
The 2025 summer window may still be in effect, but clubs across the Football League will be planning 12 months ahead.
Given the importance of contract length in transfer negotiations, recruitment teams will constantly assess the terms of their current players as well as those of other clubs.
Running down your contract can be a creative way for players to force a departure from their current employers or negotiate a significant pay increase to stay with the club.
Coventry City have signed Kaine Kesler-Hayden, Miguel Brau, and Carl Rushworth this summer, while Milan van Ewijk and Bobby Thomas will remain at the CBS Arena.
Looking ahead to 2026, Football League World has compiled a list of Sky Blues players who are expected to leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season, according to Transfermarkt.
Ben Sheaf
Ben Sheaf joined Coventry City on loan from Arsenal in 2020, and the move became permanent a year later.
The holding midfielder has appeared over 170 times for the Sky Blues, including numerous appearances in the club’s play-off campaigns of 2023 and 2025.
He has previously been linked with Ipswich Town, but speculation about a move away from the CBS Arena this summer has remained quiet.
Sheaf came on as a substitute in Coventry’s opening-day draw with Hull City, but he suffered a groin injury after only seven minutes on the pitch and was later replaced.
Frank Lampard appears to prefer a midfield pivot of Victor Torp and Matt Grimes, making it difficult to predict where Sheaf will fit into the Sky Blues’ starting lineup once he returns to full fitness.
As a result, it will be interesting to see how his contract situation develops throughout the season, as his current deal is set to expire next summer.
Brad Collins
Brad Collins was brought to the CBS Arena in the summer of 2023, replacing Ben Wilson as the club’s number one custodian.
The shot-stopper had a successful first season with the Sky Blues, saving a penalty from Casemiro at Wembley Stadium during Coventry’s heartbreaking FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester United.
However, with the arrival of Oliver Dovin in 2024, it became clear that he was no longer the best candidate to be the club’s first-choice custodian.
With the addition of Carl Rushworth on loan from Brighton, it’s difficult to see Collins’ future under Lampard’s leadership. As a result, it is unlikely that his contract will be extended beyond its current expiration date in summer 2026.
Jamie Allen
Jamie Allen signed a one-year contract extension with Coventry last season, so he will leave the club next summer. Following Ben Sheaf’s injury, the 30-year-old saw extensive playing time under Lampard in the second half of the 2024/25 season.
This prompted calls from supporters to extend his six-year contract with the Sky Blues, which was eventually granted. Allen appeared in Coventry’s 1-0 EFL Cup victory over Luton Town, but he appears to be a ready-made Championship squad member.
The midfielder may be called into regular action more frequently as the season progresses, but it appears unlikely that he will be given another contract at the CBS Arena beyond 2026.
