Worshippers in Coventry say ‘deeply troubling’ after girl raped in the Midlands.
She was apparently the subject of a racially motivated attack last Tuesday.
Sikh leaders in Coventry have expressed their ‘prayers and solidarity’ for a young girl who was allegedly raped in the West Midlands. She was apparently the subject of a racially motivated attack in Oldbury.
Worshippers at the Gurdwara Guru Nanak Parkash, located on Harnall Lane West in Coventry, expressed their “deep sadness.” Many decried the crime and prayed for the girl, who is in her twenties.
On Tuesday (September 9), police were alerted to claims of a girl being raped on Tame Road in Oldbury shortly before 8.30 a.m. In a statement released on Sunday, Gurdwara Guru Nanak Parkash said:
“It is with heavy hearts that we write to you about the recent and extremely worrisome event involving a young Sikh girl from our community who was sexually raped in what appears to have been a racially motivated attack.
Our sympathies and support are with her and her family during this trying time.”

Leaders went on to say, “Such acts of hatred and violence have no place in society, and they harm not only the victim but the entire community.”
If you or your family members are the victims or witnesses of a hate crime, abuse, or harassment, please notify the police right away. “In the current political and social atmosphere, it is critical that we stay watchful and cautious in our daily activities.
Please take care of yourselves and each other.” A man in his 30s was detained yesterday on suspicion of rape and is still in custody today (September 15). Police are still looking for a second individual who may have been involved.
Chief Superintendent Kim Madill of West Midlands Police said: “We would urge people not to speculate while we try to identify and track all those who may have been involved.
We would remind everyone that legal actions are now underway, and we would emphasise the necessity of letting the court process run its course.
Detective Sergeant Madill continued: “Anyone with information can contact us by calling 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting log 798 of September 9.”
