International flag bunting has been stretched along the bridge, with national flags from Spain, Jamaica, Guatemala, the Netherlands, Poland, Chile, Ireland, and Haiti hung from the rails.

The Union Jack is also included, as are the Pride flag and the Earth banner. Harry, 32, one of five people who placed them up, said: “We’re reminding people that Norwich is a welcoming city.”

“Being insular did not help us become the first UNESCO City of Literature, have a world-class university and research park, or have a thriving cultural scene.”

“We welcomed people from all over the world and without that Norwich would be a sadder, poorer and less brilliant place to live.”

After the sign went up early Tuesday morning, some passers-by expressed their support, while automobiles passing below beeped their horns.

It comes after days of tension on neighbouring Dereham Road, where dozens of Union Jacks and St George Crosses were erected last week.

The so-called flagging club that organised the action claims to be promoting unity and patriotism.

However, other people claim the national flags are frightening and attempted to pull them down, resulting in fights.

Harry continued, “We’ve seen people use flags to sow discord and as a tactic of intimidation. Today, we’re utilising them to convey a message of welcome and solidarity. “We’ve placed the Union Jack in the centre because it’s more than just their flag.

A true patriot believes in their nation and knows it can be friendly, loving, and hospitable without feeling threatened or losing its identity.” Because of the severe winds, the flags will be removed later this morning to protect drivers. The flags were obtained second-hand online.
