Marko Pjaca sought guidance from fellow countryman Ivan Perisic before signing with FC Twente, according to Geert-Jan Jakobs of VI.
The PSV player described Twente as a well-organized squad and spoke warmly about the Eredivisie. “It was a difficult decision,” admits the 30-year-old Croatian, who scored on his Twente debut.
“I took my time.” This is a critical period in my career, and I needed to make the proper decision. I had several possibilities, even those on distant continents. But I wanted to stay in Europe since the World Cup is coming up.
Pjaca, who was on a free transfer at the time, discussed his options with Perisic. “He expressed his opinion regarding the team. (He stated) that FC Twente was a difficult opponent for PSV, since they were well-organized and physically strong. Ivan stated that with my playing style, I would be an ideal candidate for the Eredivisie. Because it is a league that features exciting, aggressive football. He appreciates it, and I’m the same type of player.”
“Ivan told me to come here and wished me luck once I signed my contract. This was the best decision I could’ve made. I wish to contribute here with my experience and steadiness.”
