Crossbow shooter admits attempted murder of police officers

Crossbow shooter admits attempted murder of police officers.

A guy acknowledged attempting to murder three armed police officers with a crossbow at his Dundee house.

Michael Ley, 35, fired several bolts at the policemen as they gathered around a police car in the street.

On March 14, a concerned mental health nurse who was visiting Ley at his house called them to the incident in the city’s Whitfield district.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard Ley claim that he did not intend to harm the police officers, but was suicidal and “just wanted to die that day”.

According to Advocate Depute Chris Jones, the cops were forced to duck as Ley fired a succession of bolts at them from his bedroom.

The prosecutor stated that one officer returned fire with a non-lethal cartridge, and that all three believed the accused represented a threat to life. The officers then forced an emergency entry into the residence with flashbang grenades and seized Ley in a bedroom.

According to the court, authorities discovered a sword and a huge knife on the bed and recovered two crossbows.

Ley admitted attacking the three cops while performing their duties by repeatedly firing a crossbow at them, putting their lives in danger, and attempting to kill them.

The court heard that Ley, who has past convictions for culpable and reckless conduct, weapon possession, housebreaking, and violation of bail, had mental evaluation in 2009. He was diagnosed with “drug-induced psychosis or drug-induced depressive psychosis”.

After the 14 March incident, Ley was transported to the hospital and detained after being released. He stated, “I did not attempt to murder anyone. I was suicidal.

“I just wanted to die that day.” According to defence solicitor advocate James Laverty, Ley is currently taking medication and not consuming illicit substances.

Lord Stuart postponed the sentence on Ley, who is now in detention, to allow for the compilation of a background report and risk assessment.
