The victim, a man in his fifties, was seriously injured after being subjected to a savage knife attack at the bottom of the steps at the Nelson Hotel on Prince of Wales Road, according to Norwich Crown Court.

The victim was attacked in the early hours of February 14, 2020, and suffered lacerations to the back of his neck and right arm, as well as an abdominal injury.
Prosecutor Jerry Hayes said Weekes and his then-17-year-old co-defendant first saw the victim as they arrived in Norwich after getting off the train.
He said that the victim, who was inebriated at the time of the incident, had no recall of what happened, despite the fact that the injuries were “very severe”.

Weekes captured some of the attack on his mobile phone, along with the caption “Out on violence”. Mr Hayes admitted it “seemed to be a totally random” attack with “no suggestion” of a “targeted” offence.
Weekends of Blackburn, appeared in court on Friday (October 24) for punishment after admitting wounding without intent.

Judge Anthony Bate (Image: Newsquest)
Judge Bate sentenced Miah to two years in a Young Offenders Institution (YOI), claiming that his “continuing” presence encouraged him to carry out the joint enterprise attack.
Weekes was just 15 years old when he committed the crime, according to Michael Clare, who was defending him.
He claimed Weekes and his co-defendant had been subjected to “racial abuse” by the drunk victim of the encounter.
Mr Clare stated that Weekes agrees he attacked and kicked the victim when he was on the ground.
However, the barrister claimed Weekes, who filmed part of the attack on his phone after being encouraged to do so by his co-defendant, had no awareness of the knife Miah carried with him and used in the attack.
Mr Clare claimed Weekes was “not responsible for the main injuries” sustained by the victim.
Miah, who has no fixed residence but was previously from Bedfordshire, was charged with wounding with intent after the 2020 attack.
However, he was deemed unfit to enter a plea, and jurors determined in August that Miah committed the act accused against him during a trial held in his absence.
