A man was apprehended after armed police allegedly engaged in a seven-hour standoff on a Dundee street on Friday.

Residents reported hearing fireworks go off on Albany Terrace, near Dudhope Park, about 1 a.m., prompting emergency services to respond. At 8 a.m., officers with firearms were still standing on the street outside a building, with both ends of the road blocked.

A fire engine was also present at the scene. However, the situation had ended by roughly 8.45 a.m.

According to The Courier, police were allegedly engaged in a standoff with someone inside a nearby property.

Chris Shannon, who lives in the building where the incident is taking place, said: “It all started at 1 a.m., when someone started setting off fireworks. “It triggered the fire alarm and alarms.

“Neighbours phoned the fire department, and then the cops arrived. “Then it really took off. “The rest of the people who live in the building were evacuated.

“Police called for armed backup, and armed officers arrived on the scene. “This has been going on for seven hours now. “I had to go to another residence close and simply wait. “I came out to take a look.

It’s all been quite disturbing. According to Courier reporter Lindsey Hamilton, who was on the site, police cordoned down Albany Terrace from both ends.

“Police officers with rifles were standing on the pavement. There was also a fire engine on the scene.

“It was a calm neighbourhood, yet many neighbours came out to see. “The armed police were focussing on a flat in a large house nearby.

“At around 8.45am, they left the scene.” A representative for Police Scotland stated, “Around 1.20am on Friday, we received a report of a disturbance at a property on Albany Terrace in Dundee.” “Emergency services responded, and there were no injuries recorded.

“A 47-year-old man has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”
