Steven Pressley says Dundee rebuild will take time as he looks ‘three or four windows’ ahead.
The Dark Blues signed 11 players this summer, but were devastated to miss out on deadline day.
Steven Pressley admits that Dundee’s rebuilding is far from complete and that it might take years. The Dark Blues were frustrated that they did not add at least one more player to their team by the deadline.
On the last day, moves for Celtic’s Colby Donovan and ex-Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack were unsuccessful.
They did sign 11 players over the summer after losing much of last season’s group.
And Pressley concedes it will take time to bring Dundee to the level he desires. “We have to go window to window,” he explained.
“We’ve signed a lot of players, and I don’t expect to have the entire team or squad inside one window.
“I believe that any manager will tell you that you need three or four windows to properly get your group together. “So I don’t anticipate us to be there during this window, but I believe we’ve made some progress in that regard.
“We need to be competitive. I believe we have proved this in all of our competitive games.
“We need more. We need to improve. I know that, but I think we’ve made some progress.”
International break
During their international break, the Dark Blues have been working hard. Players were given Monday off following their Sunday match against Dundee United.
Those who are not on international assignment, however, have had a full week of training.
While he is glad to have spent some time on the training ground, Pressley cautions against expecting a complete turnaround by the time Motherwell arrive at Dens Park next Saturday.
“I don’t see it immediately changing and we’ve got to be careful around this,” he told me. “This is the stage when we want to get to the bottom of the matter far too rapidly, and we have to be careful.
“I’ve seen firsthand that you have to strike a balance between what we’re trying to do and growth in the attacking areas, but it’s difficult.
“We simply need to make sure we find the correct solution at this time. “It’s not going to be found within the next two weeks, but in time and games and a lot of improvements we’ll get there.
