Sheffield residents awakened to find a massive police cordon in the heart of the city.
West Street is currently under police patrol following an incident that is thought to have occurred early on Bank Holiday Monday morning (May 25).

What has happened on West Street?
Although the nature of the incident is yet unknown, a local resident informed The Star that they heard a huge blast at 1 a.m.
A motorcycle can be seen within the cordon, although it is unclear whether this is related to the event.
Around a dozen officers remain on the site, as do about half a dozen police vehicles.
South Yorkshire Police have been contacted for more information, and we will publish updates as soon as we have them.

Footage from West Street reveals the extent of the cordon in place on Monday morning, which includes famous bar West Street Live, sandwich restaurant Subway, and the Job Centre, among other businesses and properties.

The photos show the lingering wreckage from Bank Holiday Sunday’s hectic night, with police officers patrolling the barrier.


Trams are now not operating on West Street owing to a police incident.
South Yorkshire Transport released a statement on X just before 7 a.m. on Monday, May 25: “South Yorkshire Police have closed West Street due to an incident, so services are unable to operate between Cathedral and Middlewood or Malin Bridge until further notice.”
“Tickets acceptance has been agreed with both First and Stagecoach through the disrupted area.”
