Wolves make fourth summer signing with international defender

The £10 million acquisition of Cameroonian defender Jackson Tchatchoua has been finalized by Wolves.

The 23-year-old, who signed a five-year contract with the option to extend it by another year, joins from Italian club Hellas Verona and expands Vitor Pereira’s options at right-wing-back.

According to Pereira, Ki-Jana Hoever will remain with Wolves this season after starting all of preseason and holding his spot against Manchester City over the weekend.

However, as Wolves attempt to replace Nelson Semedo, Tchatchoua now adds competition to that position.

Marc Pubill had already left Wolves for Atletico Madrid, and the team was also unsure of Pubill’s loyalty to Wolves when his agents tried to insert a relegation release provision in his contract.

The team then made an effort to persuade Juanlu Sanchez to leave Sevilla and join them, but the midfielder has insisted on wanting to play for Italian champions Napoli.

Following his successful completion of his physical, they have now added Tchatchoua as a right-wing-back.

Before moving to Verona, Tchatchoua made his debut at Charleroi in his native Belgium.

He has participated in 62 league games over the course of two seasons in Italian football, scoring twice and providing five assists.

With a maximum speed of 36.3 km/h last season, Tchatchoua was named the quickest player in Serie A. He is also versatile, having played on the left side earlier in his career.

Before making his senior debut last summer, the defender, who is qualified to play for Cameroon, was initially called up at the youth level. He has accumulated ten caps thus far.
