‘Outstanding’ McCabe impresses Argyle boss Cleverley.

Plymouth Argyle manager Tom Cleverley has been impressed with new loanee Law McCabe in his first full week with the club.

The 19-year-old Middlesbrough midfielder has joined Argyle after being away with England’s under-20 squad.

The deadline-day signing had the opportunity to practice with England’s senior team while at St George’s Park, and he was also in attendance for last week’s 4-2 victory over Stockport County.

“He is technically brilliant. Cleverley, a former England and Manchester United midfielder, told BBC Radio Devon: “He has a really good habit of trying to pass the ball forward.”

“He’s one of those midfielders that always seems to have time, it reminds me a little bit of when I went to Leicester on loan as a 19, 20-year-old – I was very similar in terms of stature, in terms of attributes.”

Cleverley has enjoyed a full week of training with his squad for the first time since early last month.

While Argyle’s midfield of Bradley Ibrahim, Malachi Boateng, and Caleb Watts impressed in the win over Stockport, Cleverley believes McCabe would be an excellent addition to his team and might make his debut against Luton Town this Saturday.

“It’s all about keeping on developing his strengths and really looking to improve some of his weaknesses, but he’s got lots and lots of ability, that’s for sure,” he told me. “I’ve only seen him for three training sessions, but he’s quite strong when we play football.

“He’s an exciting player, the players have warmed to him straight away, I think he’ll be a very good deal for both parties.”
