Zepiqueno Redmond, whose name is inspired by a four-time Oscar-nominated Brazilian film, is now looking to write his own script after leaving Feyenoord for Aston Villa and joining Huddersfield Town on loan this summer.

Redmond attended the Alexandria ’66, CVV Zwervers, and ADO Den Haag youth academies before joining Feyenoord in 2019. He is now in England at the Kirklees Stadium for the next chapter of his promising career.

The 19-year-old hopes to become the latest player with Suriname ties to prosper among Europe’s best, following in the footsteps of Frank Rijkaard, Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, and Virgil van Dijk, among others.

Despite being named after the main antagonist, Zepequeno, from the 2002 Brazilian Oscar-nominated crime drama City of God, the similarities between the new Huddersfield striker and the power-hungry villain, also known as Lil’ze, end there.

“I think he’s a good person and a good player,” his former Feyenoord U21 coach Pascal Bosschaart told Sky Sports. “I believe on the pitch, he is a player who will not give up. He always gives his all. In the dressing room, he’s a character.

His first-team debut came in a 4-1 win over Almere City, and he scored his first goals two months later against MVV Maastricht in the KNVB Cup. The progress wouldn’t stop there.
In February 2025, following injuries to Julian Carranza, Santiago Gimenez, and Ayase Ueda, Redmond was faced with leading the line at the San Siro against AC Milan at the age of only 18.

Bosschaart made the choice after taking over as caretaker following Brian Priske’s departure.

When asked how he informed Redmond, or ‘Zepe’ as he refers to him from their time working together in the U21s, Bosschaart replied: “exactly the way, exactly the way I always do it, if he’s going to play it, he’s going to play.

“Of course, people were struggling a little bit in that period with our strikers, and he was actually the third one, maybe the fourth one, but he was the first one in queue.”
