Coventry teacher who told pupil her ‘boobs were popping out’ banned from classroom.

A Coventry teacher has been suspended from the classroom after being found to have engaged in inappropriate behaviour, such as telling a female student her “boobs were popping out”.
Gareth Llewellyn was working at Sidney Stringer Academy for over three years before being suspended in May 2023 following an investigation by the school.
A study published on Friday, October 17 by the Teaching Regulation Agency found a number of claims about his conduct to be true.
They also claimed that he requested a student for their telephone number and email address, inspected a student’s social media account, and exchanged improper and overly familiar emails.
He was also accused of hugging a student and making inappropriate comments about one’s appearance. He was also accused of arranging unlawful meetings at the school and taking two girls shopping. The panel condemned Mr.
Llewellyn’s actions as a “gross abuse of trust”. It stated that some of the students involved had previously been identified as vulnerable. The panel dismissed his assertion that his actions were intended to be “paternal” and “supportive.”
The panel was shown the communications that Mr Llewellyn sent. One teacher encouraged a student to “express your feelings and not keep them bottled in.”
He also offered “a sympathetic embrace from an old man” and signed off with “Cheeky!! “There will be more.” One person wrote, “What an amazing young lady you are.” Those who are fortunate enough to have you in their lives are extremely lucky.
I count myself as one of them.” The panel decided that Mr Llewellyn made comments concerning the looks of a vulnerable pupil.
On one occasion, he was accused of telling her, “Look at your body now, it’s really nice, and your weight is all in the right places.”
On another occasion, he was reported to have informed the same female that “your boobs are popping out,” as well as that she was the “prettiest girl”.
The report stated that “The panel considered Mr Llewellyn had committed a gross breach of his position of trust in respect of each of the students in this matter.”
Mr Llewellyn had gained the pupils’ trust, which he had abused by crossing professional boundaries, in some cases in pursuit of a future sexual relationship.
“Some of these pupils had been fragile, which exacerbated the violation of trust. He had also presented himself as seeking to assist his students, when in reality his motivations were self-serving.
