Alfie May’s experience is undeniable; he turned thirty a few weeks prior to moving from Birmingham City to Huddersfield Town in July. However, it was at Cheltenham Town, his next club, that he established his reputation, scoring 43 league goals in two seasons before joining Charlton Athletic, where he scored 23 goals to complete a hat-trick of more than twenty goals in a season.

Birmingham City became interested in him as a result, and they moved to St Andrews in July 2024. Although he only spent one season with Birmingham, it was an incredible one. As the Blues raced to a record-breaking 111 points and the League One title, May scored 16 goals in 44 league games.

However, Birmingham are known for their ambition, and with the team aiming for a second consecutive promotion to the Premier League, it was determined that May should be let go. Huddersfield paid £1.2 million for him. However, neither the player nor his new club would have anticipated the outcome of this trade thus far. His club has only won two of the seven League games since the end of August, despite the fact that he has scored two goals for them.

May’s record at Cheltenham, Charlton, and Birmingham shows that he is a proven goal scorer in League One, so it will hurt to hear that Grant isn’t getting the most of him at Huddersfield. Lee Grant needs to find a swift response to this question if he hopes to stay in this role for much longer.
