Boy, 16, arrested over stabbing in Birmingham city centre outside flagship Primark.

A 16-year-old kid has been detained following the stabbing of a 17-year-old outside Birmingham’s flagship Primark store in the city centre.

A 16-year-old kid has been detained following the stabbing of a teenager in Birmingham’s city centre.

The 17-year-old girl was allegedly knifed outside the city’s main Primark store on Birmingham High Street soon after 6 p.m. on Sunday, October 12.

A large police cordon was in place overnight, and stores like Greggs, Pandora, and Deichmann, as well as Metro Bank and Barclays, were shuttered for hours.

Forensic investigators wearing white dungarees were seen inspecting into bins. Shoppers were advised at the time to avoid the area.

West Midlands Police have confirmed to BirminghamLive that a 16-year-old boy was apprehended following the attack. He was released on bail while police investigations continued.

A police official stated, “We are still investigating an incident on October 12 in which a 17-year-old boy was stabbed.”

“A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been released on police bail as enquiries continue.” The attack occurred only seven days after another 17-year-old was stabbed in a separate incident near the Bullring.

On Sunday, October 5, up to ten males were reported to be involved in a ‘fight’ in which the adolescent was stabbed outside the retail complex, near the renowned bronze Bull.

He was brought to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Nearly a month later, authorities have not made any arrests.

Police boss says ‘we’ve got a safe city’

We recently spoke with West Midlands Police Chief Craig Guildford about the two incidents in the city centre.

The senior cop expressed satisfaction with the overall reduction in crime, particularly knife crime, but acknowledged that more effort is needed. “Knife crime continues to reduce,” he added.

“That’s really good, it’s healthy, it’s going in the right direction, but we have not let up any of our pressure on that and it needs to keep going down further.”

When asked if he was pleased with how quickly his officers responded to the city centre attacks, he replied, “Yeah, we have pretty good reaction rates.

“In an emergency, regardless of your postcode, we arrive in under 10 minutes. Three years ago, it would take 15 minutes.

“Of course, we can’t be on every street corner at every hour of the day, but our response times in the heart of the cities across the West Midlands are spot on. We get there fast and do efficient investigations.”

When asked what he would tell individuals who are terrified of going into the city core, he replied, “What I would say is that I often go into the city.”

I have an old father, and we frequently go out for a few of evening beers. We have a safe city; Coventry is safe, as is Wolverhampton.

“These crimes, when they do occur, do get quite a bit of focus but we’re determined to investigate them, to detect them, and to prevent them from happening.”
