JONES: “WHAT A WAY TO WIN THE GAME!”.
Addicks manager Nathan Jones was pleased with his squad after a stoppage-time goal from Sonny Carey secured all three points as Charlton defeated West Bromwich Albion 1-0 at The Valley to go up to sixth in the Sky Bet Championship standings.
“It feels euphoric,” he told Charlton TV. “I am pleased of the team and how they persevered. West Bromwich Albion are a wonderful football team, having previously played in the Premier League and currently competing in the Championship.
But I felt we were great tonight, going head to head with them. “We did not take a step back; our only disappointment tonight was the penalty [miss]. “Throughout the game, we were aggressive, and I am really happy of the team.
“It required a penalty save, a world-class stop by Sonny Carey, and persistent pushing until the 95th minute [to win]. “In the first half, we didn’t move the ball well and weren’t imaginative enough.
I asked them to be brave at halftime, to manage the ball better, and to use the structure, which they did.
“West Brom are a well-coached team, but what a way to win a game, and there is no better time to do it.
“The Addicks also recorded their sixth clean sheet of the season, and Jones was happy with the team’s defensive performance.
He went on: “They like defending, they like working hard, and that helps us a lot.” The Addicks’ next game is against Wrexham on Saturday (3pm GMT kickoff).
