Coventry’s changing skyline as buildings bulldozed for huge regeneration project.
The City Centre South revitalisation project will include the construction of around 1,500 additional dwellings.
A significant £450 million regeneration project in Coventry is well underway. About 1,500 additional houses will be built as part of City Centre South.
Buildings are being demolished for the project, which is spearheaded by Coventry City Council and the Hill Group.
Hoardings surround the destroyed Barracks Car Park and City Arcade, as Hertford House is being flattened.
CoventryLive paid a visit to the City Centre South site on Tuesday (November 4). Stuart Bale, Project Director, expressed his vision for establishing a ‘vibrant’ city in which people may live and enjoy their surroundings.
The rehabilitation project will include the construction of about 1,575 new houses spread over 18 structures on the 17-acre property. Mr Bale stated that the construction is estimated to take around ten years, with a completion date of 2034.
Speaking to CoventryLive, Mr Bale said: “Homes and residential offerings in the city are something that there is not a huge amount of at the moment, but it is that combination of both, and having the retail offering on the ground floor allows for creating that vibrant community where you have the best mix of people who live, work, and enjoy the city.”

He continued, “Progress is going well thus far, and we are currently working on the ancient City Arcade aspect of the city, the vast majority of which has now been dismantled. We are here to build a fresh, lively city where people may live and enjoy their surroundings.
