After embarrassing remarks about Sandro Tonali’s future surfaced midweek, Newcastle United aired a new interview with him.
After voicing concerns about his future in the middle of the week, Sandro Tonali has reiterated that he is “happy” at Newcastle United.
The Italian put his team in a strong position for at least a play-off spot on Wednesday against Athletic Bilbao with a man-of-the-match performance. But rather than a strong midfield performance, his post-match remarks made headlines the next morning.
Tonali seemed to minimize the news that surfaced two weeks ago regarding his “secret” contract extension, which would bind him until 2030. In addition, he mentioned former striker Alexander Isak and declined to make a long-term commitment to Newcastle.
Regarding the contract situation, Sandro Tonali
At a press conference, Tonali stated, “This extension was three years ago after the ban.” “I’m not sure why everyone brought this up. After being banned for a further year, I signed. And I’m content—not just for another year here, but for everyone in Newcastle, including the players, supporters, and staff. I strive to win every game every day. I work for everyone in Newcastle.
Sandro Tonali provides a weak response
Tonali responded, “This is a tough question because in football you need to think year on year,” when asked if he would stay at Newcastle in the long run. I don’t want to claim that I want to stay here for ten years, but I will go after two, three, four, or five years. Year after year, I want to think for myself. It’s football. Alex (Isak) and I had a difficult summer last year, but this is football.
“If you have a choice for your life, you must consider every possibility for another team. I’m content here right now, but I don’t want to declare, “Yes, I want to stay here for ten years.” I have no thoughts about any other team.
Club makes new remarks
Tonali announced his delight at St. James’ Park in an interview with the club’s media staff a few days after his remarks generated a commotion. “I’m really happy,” he said on the Newcastle website. I make an effort to lead a very simple life. I believe this is ideal for me and my football since I am happy with my family and they are happy here.
“I believe everything is wonderful today because I play football so well. I don’t want to make any changes to my life because everything is fine right now and I believe this is ideal for my family and me.
