Hartlepool MP Jonathan Brash and Hartlepool Borough Council leader Pamela Hargreaves say: ‘We will rebuild pride in Hartlepool’

Hartlepool MP Jonathan Brash and Hartlepool Borough Council leader Pamela Hargreaves say: ‘We will rebuild pride in Hartlepool’.

As parents raising our children in Hartlepool, we see what you do every day. We walk the same streets.

We pushed the pram along the same pavements, with weeds growing through the crevices. We take our children to the same parks where the broken equipment is cordoned off.

We shake our heads at the fly-tipping and litter that should not be there in such a proud town as ours. Hartlepool is our absolute favourite place.

This is our house, where our children will grow up. And we will not accept anything less than the finest for them, your families, and every resident of our wonderful community.

That is why, this week, we are commencing Hartlepool’s largest investment in local clean-ups ever. £1 million to bring back pride in our streets and our future.

The inaugural Week of Action begins in Manor House, and as the programme progresses, it will impact every part of Hartlepool. Here’s what this means for the ground:

  • Dedicated clean-up squads tackling weeds and grime in every corner;
  • Extra CCTV to catch and expose fly-tippers;
  • Stronger enforcement to deal with the minority who spoil it for everyone;
  • New street bollards, railings and road markings to smarten up our communities;
  • Investment in parks, repairing and replacing children’s play equipment;
  • Graffiti clean-ups so vandalism doesn’t take hold.

We are unwaveringly committed to creating a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant Hartlepool for future generations. But we can’t do it alone. Not as a council. Not as an MP. Not even as a family.

This must be a townwide mission. Residents, charities, businesses, and community organisations. We all have a role to play in restoring pride and building on the incredible work of charities like as Hartlepool Big Town Tidy Up.

The vast majority of Hartlepool residents care strongly about their community. However, a selfish minority chooses to dump garbage, vandalise public spaces, and undermine communal spirit.We want to make it clear that this is the end of it.

We will locate them, fine them, and secure the future that our children deserve.

We will rebuild Hartlepool’s pride together, as parents and a community.
