DFDS apologise after adult film shown on ferry to Newhaven.
Children were “left screaming” after watching “hardcore porn” aboard a ship from France to Sussex.
DFDS, the ferry business, has apologised for what it termed as a “adult film” being erroneously played on the lounge television to passengers following the F1 Grand Prix.
The event occurred aboard the 4pm ferry from Dieppe, France, to Newhaven during a “nightmare” journey in which automobile occupants were returned to France owing to a mechanical issue at Newhaven Port. One passenger, who requested anonymity, observed the situation unfold.
She explained, “I went to main reception to notify them I was getting off and to transfer me from a car passenger to a foot passenger, when immediately kids raced out of the reclining lounge area screaming.
“Some parents came out and asked the man who works there to fix the television, claiming ‘there’s extreme porn on the TV’. A member of staff eventually turned off the TV.
The passenger said, “There were parents explaining to their children that not all grownups do that. It was a little insane.
“I’m not sure how it got on there. “It was a complete disaster with the ferry passage. People were quite disgruntled. DFDS, the company that operates the ferry between Newhaven and Dieppe, has subsequently apologised for the incident on Sunday, October 26.
It stated that the staff was “unaware” of the film, which was to be aired following the F1 Grand Prix. The channel has now been removed from the list of available stations aboard the vessel.
A spokeswoman for the company said, “During the delay, a group of passengers asked if they could watch the F1 Grand Prix on the TV in the onboard lounges.” ” Unfortunately, the crew was unaware that the next item to be broadcast after this programming was an adult film.
A passenger warned the crew of the material, and the channel was swiftly changed. Furthermore, the channel has been removed from the list of available stations aboard the ship, guaranteeing that this does not occur again.
We deeply sorry for the unavoidable distress and fury that this has caused for the families onboard who have inadvertently read this information.”
Other ferry passengers spoke with The Argus last month about their travel experiences.
One person who wanted to remain anonymous said, “It was a nightmare; no one knew anything.” We were hustled towards the exit until they proclaimed an emergency route for foot passengers.
Nobody paid attention to us; we felt discarded and abandoned. “It was appalling” . A DFDS official stated, “We apologise for the difficulties our guests encountered during the voyage. The delay was caused by a technical issue aboard the ship.
“Our crew worked diligently to get the matter resolved as soon as possible, but we recognise that the extra wait time and disruption to onwards travel arrangements caused annoyance and pain.
Passengers are being contacted about the impact of the delays, and appropriate compensation is being provided.
