‘Happened in an alleyway’ – Police investigate rape in Worthing as officers seek ‘crucial witness’.

Police officers in Worthing detained a man while investigating a rape.

Sussex Police has also released a CCTV photograph of a ‘crucial witness’ who investigators want to talk with following the incident in Worthing town centre.

“The incident happened in an alleyway behind the Guildbourne Shopping Centre car park and Chatsworth Road, at about 3am on October 25,” according to a police report.

“A 45-year-old woman received assistance from professionally trained officers.

“Police arrested a 42-year-old local man on suspicion of rape, and he has been bailed, pending further enquiries.” According to police, detectives are still appealing for witnesses and people with information to come forward.

“In particular, they are keen to speak to a man who may have crucial information to support the investigation,” according to a representative.

He is described as having short brown or dark hair and wearing a light blue puffer jacket, light coloured pants, a white T-shirt or polo neck shirt with a necklace, and white trainers.”
