Sheffield retro: 17 photos show lost pubs of the 60s and 70s, when Wards, Whitbread and Tetley’s ruled.
If you wanted a decent pint in the 1960s or 1970s, these establishments were a sure bet. Wards, manufactured in Sheffield, Tetley’s, and Whitbread were once popular beers in the city.
While Tetley’s continues to thrive, Wards brewery regrettably shuttered in 1999, and Whitbread turned its concentration to the hotel and restaurant industry.
This retro photo gallery depicts Wards, Whitbread, and Tetley’s pubs, among other watering spots in Sheffield throughout the 1960s and 1970s. They were spread around Sheffield, from the city centre to Burngreave, Stannington, and Handsworth.
They have all regrettably closed throughout the years, with several being demolished after the final orders were issued. All photographs are courtesy of Picture Sheffield.
Do you remember drinking at any of these establishments? For more alcoholic nostalgia, take a look back at popular bar landladies from the past.
