Crowborough charity, Family2Family, receives the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service.
Family2Family (renamed from Baby2Baby &Beyond in 2024) was founded in 2018 by Hannah Powell and Leila Parker.
It collects and redistributes high-quality baby and children’s clothing, toys, toiletries, and other things to families in need throughout East Sussex and the surrounding areas.
The charity works through a network of professional recommendations from health visitors, social workers, and support agencies to provide not just material assistance, but also dignity and compassion.
With a dedicated team of 40 volunteers, Family2Family delivered essential items to more than 1400 children through its core service in the past year alone.
All products are donated by the local community and meticulously cleaned, sorted, and packaged before being given to families. With the addition of the special ‘Bags4School’ and Christmas ‘Gifts4Kids’ initiatives, the charity has reached around 3000 children in the local area over the last year.
Hannah, who also serves as the Chair of the Trustees for Family2Family, stated: “8 years ago, what is now a critical resource was simply an idea, and it would not have been possible to bring it to completion without many volunteer hours, commitment, and belief.
Aside from the obvious satisfaction of knowing that Family2Family offers joy and help to families in need, my proudest moments have been spent with our staff.
Seeing them collaborate and choose to spend their time helping others while forming friendships is very inspiring. I am extremely appreciative to all of our volunteers who have contributed along the way.
It has been an honour and a delight to witness them achieve this recognition.” This year, Family2Family is among 231 national charities, social enterprises, and volunteer groups in the United Kingdom to be awarded.
The statement, delivered yearly on November 14th, His Majesty the King’s birthday, marks the third year of the award under King Charles III, following its founding inQueen Elizabeth II commemorated her Golden Jubilee in 2002.
The charity’s representatives will receive an official crystal award and certificate from the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex in the coming months.
In addition, two volunteers from the charity will attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in the summer of 2026, along with other national awardees.
