The part of Coventry where 1 in 13 people is unemployed – and many have never worked.

Coventry North East has more unemployed persons than any other region of Coventry, and the unemployment rate is about double that of England.

According to new unemployment numbers, over 13,000 individuals in Coventry are unemployed, with one area standing out as the location where the most people are struggling to find work.

In Coventry North East, 7.4% of working-age persons, or 5,525 people, are collecting unemployment benefits. This equates to almost one out of every thirteen people in the constituency being unemployed.

In comparison, Coventry North West’s unemployment rate is 5.3%, while Coventry South’s is 5.4%. SHARE f 61 The unemployment rate in the West Midlands is 5.4%, compared to 4% throughout the United Kingdom.

There’s some good news for Coventry North East. Since July 2024, the constituency’s unemployment rate has declined by 6.5%.

We took a deeper look into Coventry North East. According to the most recent ONS statistics, the constituency has 125,300 people.

The largest age categories are 30-34 and 35-39, with a lower number of elderly persons. More than 30% of residents were born outside of the UK, whereas 69.4% were born in the UK. There is also a significant level of destitution. Almost 60% of homes are considered impoverished.

According to the 2021 Census, 35% of people who claimed to be unemployed, or one in every three, had never worked. A additional 51% stated they had not worked in the previous 12 months.

The largest group of employed people, 18.9%, engaged in so-called ‘elementary jobs’ such as service workers and labourers.

This is much higher than the England average of 10.5% for this type of work. Professional jobs were the next largest group, accounting for 15.3%. In terms of education, the 2021 Census found that 24.2% lacked qualifications.

Again, this is greater than England’s average of 18.1%. In Coventry North East, 40.5% of respondents had level 1, 2, or 3 qualifications. This indicates they have GCSEs and A-levels.
