Charlton women go one year unbeaten following milestone win against Bristol City.
Charlton women have been unbeaten in the league for 365 days, making them one of England’s most in-form sides.
Charlton have now gone a complete year without a loss in WSL2 after defeating Bristol City this weekend. The Addicks have gone unbeaten in 20 games, winning 13 and drawing seven.
Despite their success in the league, Charlton drew too many games at the end of last season, costing them promotion to the top flight.
The club has yet to compete in the WSL, but this year could be the year they finally make it to the top level.
Chelsea is the only English team with a longer unbeaten streak than Charlton, with the WSL champions approaching 40 domestic games without a loss.
What next for Charlton?
If Charlton does not earn promotion this season, their remarkable unbeaten streak will be meaningless.
The WSL2 side has been in the second tier for three years and is desperate to make their debut in the top flight.
However, this year could be the year for the Addicks, who are flying at the top of the league. With the WSL increasing to 14 teams starting next year, there will be three promotion slots available this season.
The top two will be promoted immediately, while the third-place finisher in WSL2 will face the bottom of the WSL in a playoff to determine the final team in the top division.
Charlton are 10 points ahead of Newcastle in fourth place as the season nears its halfway point, so it is difficult to conceive they will not be given a chance at promotion by the end of the year.
