Nusrat Ghani MP congratulates Crowborough charity Family2Family on receiving the King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Nusrat Ghani, MP for Sussex Weald, is overjoyed that Family2Family, a superb Crowborough charity, has received The King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

Crowborough Charity Family2Family is one of 231 organisations in the UK to receive The King’s Award for Voluntary Service (KAVS) in November 2025.

It is the most prestigious award presented to local volunteer organisations in appreciation of their exceptional community contribution. The KAVS, which is equivalent to an MBE, is a lifetime honour.

Family2Family was founded in 2018 as Baby2Baby and currently serves thousands of local families in need thanks to a devoted team of 40 volunteers across East Sussex.

The organisation accepts donations of newborn and children’s clothing, toys, toiletries, and other necessities, which are then sorted and safety checked by volunteers before being distributed to families.

All of the things are free, and the majority are pre-loved, but they are carefully laundered and wrapped so that the recipients feel as if they are getting a gift.

Professionals and guidance agencies make referrals to ensure that the things reach people who need them the most.

Nusrat visited Family2Family earlier this year and met its creator, Hannah Powell, when she partnered with Hailsham charity Medi Tech Trust to give a donation of baby bottles and other supplies.

Nusrat Ghani stated, “I’m quite proud that Crowborough’s Family2Family earned The King’s Award for Voluntary Service in November.

Family2Family is a terrific local charity that provides crucial support to struggling families in Sussex Weald and throughout East Sussex.

I am extremely appreciative for the wonderful work that Family2Family is doing, and I was thrilled to meet creator Hannah Powell earlier this year when I assisted Medi Tech Trust in distributing thousands of baby bottles.

“The King’s Award for voluntary service is the UK’s highest award for outstanding voluntary services, and I’m pleased that Family2Family’s tireless work has been rightly recognised this way.

I would encourage any residents who are in a position to donate unwanted baby or children’s clothes, toys and other items to get in touch with Family2Family as I know that they would be most welcome for redistribution and go a long way in supporting a local parent through a difficult time.”
