February trial set for ex-gamekeeper accused of Aberfeldy shotgun murder.

A former chief gamekeeper charged with the shotgun murder of a dog walker near Aberfeldy will face trial in the coming year.

The 76-year-old is accused of disabling security cameras at a house on Crieff Road in a “attempt to conceal” his movements. According to the indictment, he fired a shotgun at Mr Low, critically injuring him and killing him at the scene.
Campbell, who has been held in detention since his initial court appearance in May 2024, has denied all charges.
His case was heard at a virtual preliminary hearing at Glasgow High Court on Friday. Judge Lord Cubie was informed that a trial date had been set on February 2 of next year. The experiment is anticipated to last three weeks. Advocate depute Greg Farrell stated that a guy who was scheduled to testify as a crown witness has died.
Allegations denied
Campbell is accused of murdering Mr Low on February 16, 2024, in the area known as Leafy Lane, near Pitilie Track in Aberfeldy.
It is claimed that he fired a shotgun at him after deactivating CCTV cameras at a residence on Crieff Road.
The accusation alleges that Campbell had “previously evinced malice and ill-will” towards his claimed victim.
He is also accused of seeking to undermine the aims of justice in the days and weeks following the alleged murder.
It is claimed that between February 16 and May 24, 2024, he disposed of a Walther RM8 Rotex airgun for which he reportedly did not have a certificate at an unknown location. He is also believed to have disposed of the shotgun and a gun bag at a location unknown to prosecutors.
Campbell is also suspected of going to Crighton’s Cycles in Blairgowrie to have two replacement tires fitted on an electric bicycle, which authorities say he used in the murder.
It is also alleged the pensioner disposed of a box, cartridge bag and bicycle tyres at Aberfeldy Recycling Centre.
Breach of peace
Campbell also faces five breach of peace charges dating back to the mid-1990s. He allegedly intimidated and terrified Alan Stewart in July 1995.
Prosecutors further allege that between March 1 and May 31, 1997, Campbell behaved disorderly at the Edradynate Estate in Aberfeldy and threatened to shoot labourer Gregor Forrest.
Campbell was also accused of threatening to shoot another man, Richard Wright, on the same Perthshire estate between June 1 and August 31, 1999.It is also claimed that between June 1 and September 30, 2011, Campbell threatened to shoot a fourth guy, Maksymillan Konchanski, at The Square in Aberfeldy.
He is also accused of threatening to shoot a woman’s dog at Ardlach House, Aberfeldy, between June 1 and September 30, 2012.
