‘He’s dead’ scream after Somerleyton House stabbing, Norwich.
Screams of “someone’s dead” rang out in Norwich’s Golden Triangle as a building was evacuated following a fatal stabbing this morning.
At approximately 5.22 a.m., a man was fatally stabbed in Somerleyton House on Somerleyton Street, off Unthank Road.
Another man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. Tenants report hearing frightened screams of “someone’s dead” from the upper wing of the building, which has since been roped off, before a fire alarm went off.
Occupants, many still in their jammies and slippers, ran down the stairs and have now been relocated to the Wensum Community Centre on Hotblack Road.

He was pronounced dead in the building’s upper wing, which houses students and professionals.
Tenants have described Somerleyton House as a “quiet” environment, with one noting that he has not heard a single party or loud music since moving in three months ago.
People are unable to return home until further notice as a result of the stabbing. Throughout the afternoon, an officer posted by the door has turned away a large number of people.Forensic investigators at the scene (Image: Harry Jackaman-Pegg)
Ben, who has resided in the facility since August, had to have his critical prescription retrieved by an officer after much consideration by the force.
He said: “They’re talking about putting people up in hotels. I just wanted to see if I could grab some medication from my room, but I don’t think I can even do that.

“There were yells and such, and then the fire alarm sounded. We all assumed it was just another fire alarm. Everyone was wearing flip flops and shorts.

“But then the police showed up. I attempted to sleep through it, but couldn’t.
“There were about seven police cars.” After asking an officer when he might return to his room, he claims he was told, “How long is a piece of string?”

Another woman, who lives at Somerleyton House but is now in the Wensum Community Centre, feels they will be allowed back in sooner rather than later.
However, she believes that the bloody proof of the crime may still be visible in the halls.

“They’ll probably clear out and say we can go back soon, but I think there will be blood stains on the floor, and they won’t have cleared it up.”
Uniformed police officers, forensics experts, and detectives are expected to remain on location until at least Monday.
The alarm, which went off well before morning, awoke many people throughout the Golden Triangle.

One man who lives on Essex Street said the ruckus woke up his flatmate, while a worker at Tesco on Unthank Road, several minutes away, heard it while clocking in.
Those who live in Suffolk Square, which faces the back of Somerleyton House, said the loud noise has also disrupted their sleep.
One woman, who wishes to remain nameless, stated that “she’d move away tomorrow” if she could because of the roughness of the land just behind the murder scene. “I’ve lived here six years, and it’s somehow got worse, if that’s possible,” she claimed.
Anyone with information can contact Norfolk police at 101 and reference incident 51 from Saturday, November 22, 2025.
