Hearts this, Hearts that—but what about Hibernian? With their local rivals dominating the narrative of the Scottish Premiership season, Hibs are quietly piling up points after an underwhelming start.

Sounds familiar? Many were concerned about head coach David Grey after the club’s dismal start last season, but he rebounded fiercely, leading the team to third place.

After starting the league season with only one victory in seven games, a run of four wins in six sees them on track to at least replicate that achievement.

Gray’s team faces a difficult journey to Motherwell on Tuesday, but another three points in Lanarkshire would bring them to within six points of leaders Hearts.

Hibernian are increasingly turning draws into victories. An excellent but ultimately unsuccessful European qualifying campaign took its toll on Gray’s team earlier this season.

Despite being unbeaten after six league games, they had only won one of them. A stoppage-time derby defeat at Tynecastle acted as a wake-up call. Since then, Hibs have won four and drawn one of their six games.

The sole defeat in that run came at home against Rangers, where they missed a late penalty and lost 1-0. Despite failing to score that night, Gray’s team’s scoring record has remained good, but they needed to tighten up defensively.
