Sunderland AFC: A Club Brimming With Hope And Pride!
Paddy Hollis comments, “It’s all about the journey — and this is one I never want to end”.
There was something broody and foreboding about the build-up to Saturday’s game — it was the first home game I’d been able to attend this season, and my first Premier League match at the Stadium of Light since April 2017.
The stadium was pounded by rain, and the playing conditions were horrible.
The new lettering on the East Stand is another tiny but significant addition, and seeing our club’s name in lights when the heavens opened was a rather powerful sight.
The foghorn and lighthouse effect on the floodlights enhanced the ambiance even further, and on my first visit to the stadium since April, it felt like I’d never left.
The second half featured some of the best football I’ve seen us play this season, but it wasn’t because of our skills; it was because of how hard we fought.
Levelling things up within a minute of the half’s start was a huge help, and it undoubtedly took the stuffing out of Bournemouth — but they remained dangerous for the rest of the match.
After a poor start, we took the game by the scruff of the neck.
Sunderland teams in the Premier League in years past would’ve lost this one probably 5-0, but as we’re discovering week in and week out, this group possesses a level of mental and physical resilience.
the likes of which we’ve not seen on Wearside for some time.
