Charlton Athletic handed fitness boost over high-profile free-agent signing ahead of Portsmouth showdown
Charlton Athletic handed fitness boost over high-profile free-agent signing ahead of Portsmouth showdown.
Pompey travel to south London to face Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
Nathan Jones has stated that Jerome Roussillon, a high-profile free agency acquisition, may be fit to face Pompey this weekend.
And the Charlton Athletic manager has urged Saturday’s sell-out crowd at The Valley to support his team in an attempt to end their four-game losing streak.
Following Josh Edwards’ injury earlier in the season, the Addicks went to the free agent market and signed left-back Jerome Rousillon at the end of November. Online Betting
Charlton handed injury boost
Following a midweek outing for Charlton’s U21s, Jones believes Roussillon will be in contention for the Blues’ visit on Saturday.
He told the club’s official website, ‘Probably training he would’ve had a higher work load and intensity, but he hasn’t played in a while.
We needed to get him some game minutes so that when he looks back on his muscle memory, he says, “I remember how to play a football game”. We are delighted with how he is training and integrating.
He was far behind physically when he entered the facility three or four weeks ago, but he’s now much closer.
‘Now he’s in a good enough position to join the squad, and we can proceed from there.’
Pompey set for Charlton occasion

Charlton have guaranteed that Saturday’s game will be the most attended at The Valley between the two teams, as the Addicks celebrate 33 years since returning to their south London home, with their first meeting also against the Blues.
And, in the midst of a poor run of form, Jones has urged fans to take advantage of the opportunity to help his team snap a four-game losing streak. He stated that he will provide the players with any motivation they require.
It’ll be a unique occasion to return to The Valley; it’s lovely. There’s also the irony of playing in Portsmouth. But the most important thing is that we get back to winning.
We’ve done pretty well at The Valley. We need to improve our performance against Southampton in a challenging fixture. We want to get back to normal, do what we do best, and be the best versions of ourselves. If we are, it is all we can focus on.
Overall, it may be a fantastic event on all levels. Achieving a favourable outcome will require the entire football team to work together.
This time last year, there were just under 11,500 at The Valley, and we’re in a lot better situation.
We appealed for patience first, and then we asked for their cooperation. All we want now is that you remain with us through this period because we will get through it and be in a much stronger position.
