Edinburgh youth gang ‘surround police’ as traffic diverted from busy road.

Around 40 youths’surrounded’ police on Broomhouse Road in Edinburgh on Bonfire Night, while buses were forced to detour owing to ‘anti-social behaviour’ around 7.30pm on November 5.

A gang of approximately 40 adolescents allegedly assembled in Edinburgh, causing buses to be diverted after they’surrounded police’.

Locals alleged yobs were ‘immediately dispersed’ from Broomhouse Road around 7.30 p.m. on November 5. Police have been deployed throughout the city to combat disruption on Bonfire Night, with a police helicopter spotted circling numerous districts.

According to the Daily Record, officers were on the scene on Broomhouse Road after Lothian was forced to divert service 21 away from the area.

A spokeswoman clarified: “Due to anti-social behaviour buses are unable to serve part of Calder Road and Broomhouse Road and are instead diverted via Bankhead Avenue and Bankhead Drive in both directions until further notice.”

To prevent disorder, cops are executing Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 in select districts of Edinburgh.

This enables cops to stop and search people and vehicles when it is reasonable and necessary.

The powers will be in effect in the Niddrie, Muirhouse, Pilton, Moredun, Gracemount, Saughton, Sighthill, and Longstone sections of the city.

Control zones are also in place in nine locations throughout the city where it is unlawful to light off fireworks.

The affected regions are Balerno, Calton Hill, Corstorphine, Gracemount, Longstone, Moredun, Niddrie, Seafield, and Sighthill. Police Scotland warned earlier today that attacks on police would not be tolerated.
