Fire appliances sent to Union Street in Aberdeen to investigate ‘unknown smell’k’.

The strong “unknown smell” detected on Aberdeen’s Union Street was not caused by gas, according to SGN, the gas distribution company.
Two fire trucks were dispatched to Union Street this evening after reports of a “smell of gas” were received.
The incident occurred around 6.15 p.m. near the Granite Mile’s Grill Bar, which is across from the Music Hall.
The scent was claimed to afflict two “commercial units” with flats above.
Two appliances from Aberdeen Central station in Mounthooly were dispatched to the area at 6.18pm and left at 7.04pm, with SGN, the gas distribution company, arriving to investigate.
However, SGN claims the “strong odour” was not generated by gas, and no traces of gas were discovered during the investigation.
A representative for SGN stated, “Our engineers responded to a call reporting a gas smell in two commercial premises on Union Street in Aberdeen.
“We attended the scene in our capacity as Scotland’s Gas.Emergency Services. “Following thorough testing to the affected properties and the flats above, there were no traces of gas of any kind found, and therefore not the cause of the strong odour.”
